Pricing & Booking
What does the $300 session fee include?
The session fee covers the time for the session and comes with 5-10 watermarked digital images for you to share on social media.
Why aren’t digital images included with the session fee?
Buie Photography is a print based company because, well, we don’t believe that your photography experience should end when your session is over. We passionately believe that the ultimate purpose of photography is to create art that can be held and enjoyed for years to come; 20, 40, 60 years from now, by your children and their children. Simply put, hard drives crash.
Since hard drives crash, how do you store the digital versions of my portraits?
It’s not easy, lol. We have a fairly involved archival process that incorporates several redundancies to ensure that a catastrophic systems failure would not actually be catastrophic for our clients. Once a digital file enters our archive it is backed up in several separate, secure locations including archival quality hard drives and web based storage facilities. There are a lot of steps and it takes some time, but, as professional photographers, protecting your memories is one of highest priorities.
Do you charge a fee for travel?
We do not charge a travel fee for portrait session within a 70 mile radius of Ruston, Louisiana. For sessions outside of this area travel charges are determined on a case by case basis. No two shoots are the same, afterall!
Do you travel for client meetings?
Yes! We prefer to meet with anyone interested in our photography before the actual portrait session so that we can get to know one another better, plan the actual session, and answer any questions you might have. And for weddings, we believe that it is absolutely essential! We prefer face-to-face meetings whenever possible, however, if that is just not possible we can use any of a variety of methods to talk.
How can I reserve a date for a portrait session/wedding?
The session fee for a portrait session (Seniors, Families, Pets) is due upon booking and, along with a contract, reserves a specific date for you on our calendar. In order to reserve a date for your wedding, we require a contract and a deposit of 25% of your wedding package (40% for wedding booked more than a year in advance).
Are there two photographers at every session?
Yes! Unless otherwise requested, both Cara and Brent are present at every portrait session. This allows us to capture even more images and provide you the highest quality artistry and service.
Do you ever return RAW files or are they available for purchase?
No, we do not release our RAW files. The RAW files are an unfinished product that would not fully represent the work of Buie Photography. We are dedicated to only providing products that meet our stringent quality standards.
What equipment do you use?
We use Canon 5D Mark III series camera bodies. Our most frequently used lenses are the Canon 35mm, 50mm, 24-70mm, and 100mm macro lenses, among others. We also use Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT flashes.
What if I feel super awkward posing in front of the camera?
That is totally natural. Not everyone spends all day being chased by the paparazzi! And we absolutely won’t let it happen. We’ve been doing this for a long time and one of our areas of expertise is in working with our clients to “loosen up,” relax, and just enjoy the session. Photography should be an enjoyable experience! This is another excellent reason for why we prefer to meet with our clients before their portrait session. The rapport we develop during our meeting will go a long way toward making you feel much less awkward or uncomfortable.
During the Session
Is there a limit on the number of looks/locations or a time limit for your portrait sessions?
No, we do not have any limits on the number of looks you can wear or the number of locations we will visit during your shoot. Most of our portrait sessions last anywhere from one to two hours depending on the specifics. However, if you are interested in a shoot that is a little more “out there,” or time consuming, we are totally down for that, too, and it will not affect your session fee.
Do you pick the locations for your sessions?
We are constantly scouting locations and adding different sites to our repertoire, but the final determination of where we will be shooting is usually a collaborative effort between Buie Photography and our clients. If you already have a location in mind we can help you visualize different ways for us to use the space or if you have no idea we can offer plenty of suggestions during our meeting.
Will I get any digital images from my session?
While we are firmly dedicated to printing portraits, we do realize that it is 2018 and social media plays a role in almost everyone’s life. After each portrait session you will receive 5-10 watermarked digital images optimized for social media that you can share as often as you like.
What should I wear?
Well, it depends on what type of session we are talking about. Naturally, senior portraits are different from pet portraits are different from engagements, etc., etc.. First and foremost, wear something comfortable. Second, wear something that makes you feel great. It sounds simple – and it is – but if you are comfortable you will be more relaxed and if you feel great then you look great! It’s true! We also work with our clients individually to help them select their wardrobe and talk through all of their different options considering the many different variables that can come into play.
After the Portrait Session
What happens at the reveal session?
Once we have finished editing your images we will schedule a time for you to visit our home so that you can view your portraits and select the ones you would like to order (and in which format). This is arguably the most fun stage of the process; all of the hard work is finished and now it’s time to relax, savor some refreshments, and enjoy your photography! This is the first time you will be seeing all of your images and that’s always exciting!
How long will it take for me to see the final results?
There can be a decent amount of variation from session to session depending on the type of session, the time of year, etc., however, a good rule of thumb would be between one and two weeks.
Can I see a few images right away?
Of course! We don’t want to keep you completely in the dark! Within a day or two, of your session, we will post a “sneak peek,” on one – or several – of our social media sites. Feel free to share with friends and family!
How would you describe your style of wedding photography?
In a word: photojournalistic. We document the events of your wedding day in a style that highlights your personality and how beautiful you truly are. Think less photographer involvement. We want to record you having fun, loving, and being loved without dictating the flow of your wedding. Yes, we do some posing. Some shots are too good to pass up, after all, and large family groups usually don’t just line themselves up naturally. However, we rely heavily on our ability to anticipate the moments that really matter. You know, the ones that you will want grandchildren to see. By combining our years of experience and the time we have taken to get to know you and your personality, we are able to anticipate the moment and capture it for you.
Do you also provide videography?
We do not provide videography services. Videography, although related to photography, is a completely different artistic medium with a completely different set of artistic skills. However, we have worked with several in the past and can offer recommendations upon request.
Will I get digital images with my wedding package?
Yes, you get high resolution digital images. Wedding photography is the one exception in our photography where we supply digital images. We do this because we believe wedding photography should be more accessible – it is your wedding, after all, how many times is that gonna happen? – and not including digital images could make it cost prohibitive for too many young couples that deserve to have their wedding preserved, too.
How far in advance do I need to reserve you for my wedding?
We limit the number of weddings we shoot each year, so there can be a decent amount of variance from year to year and when you are getting married. The majority of our clients have tended to book us anywhere from 6 to 8 months prior to their wedding date. However, we have booked weddings more than a year in advance. Our best advice would be to schedule a consultation with us as soon as you feel you might be interested in working with us for your wedding.
If my wedding is running a little behind scheduled, or my reception is lasting longer than anticipated, will you stay longer?
Yes! We never leave a wedding – regardless of the original plans – before speaking with the bride and groom. We always, always, always touch base with our clients to see what they are thinking and how they feel about the evening, as well as to confirm whether or not they have had any last minute changes or plans that we might not have been informed about. Adding additional time to your wedding coverage is not a problem, and we can discuss additional payment options for the extra time after your honeymoon – though we never add or detract anything from the original coverage without first verifying with you.
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes! We are fully insured and it is no problem for us to get that information to your venue.
